Chronolgy of Ritsema Place Names - Leeuwarden
Gentlemen,
Thanks to Wout's help in providing information and translations, I was able to prepare the attached "Chronology of Ritsema Place Names in and West of Leeuwarden." This list helps me, and hopefully others, see the progression of the names of these three places on one page. Although there is presently no genealogical or DNA proof, it is evident to me that the Ritsema surname is likely connected in some way to Ritzum, for which a record as early as 1365 exists. For your immediate reference, I also attached an 1851 map that Wout found showing "Ritsuma-buren" and "Ritsuma-zijl."
